Copoeia has an extensive line of natural wellness products, many of which include select hemp-based cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, and CBN in addition to other natural ingredients. Notably, we believe that hemp cannabinoids can improve an item’s therapeutic value, especially when produced and extracted with great care.
Today, we’ll outline the most common hemp cannabinoids in Copoeia products, but first, let’s explain what hemp is (and isn’t).
What Makes Hemp Hemp?
Hemp is a variety of the plant Cannabis Sativa, which differs from intoxicating “marijuana”-type cannabis due to its low THC content. To be clear, THC, or Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol, is the psychoactive component in cannabis that can cause consumers to feel “high.” However, because hemp contains such low amounts of THC, most consider it a non-psychoactive plant.
Nevertheless, hemp contains a variety of non-intoxicating cannabinoids like CBD, CBN, CBG, and more. It also includes terpenes, flavonoids, and other beneficial plant components that lend themselves nicely to the wellness industry. By extracting these elements and infusing them into our wellness products, we may improve their therapeutic potential via a phenomenon called the “entourage effect.”
Essentially, the entourage effect suggests that different elements work together to alter or improve their therapeutic impact as a whole. Examples of different elements that may contribute to the entourage effect include cannabinoids, terpenes, and other plant-based substances.
Common Hemp Cannabinoids
Copoeia adds select cannabinoids to many of our herbal wellness products to help boost their restorative potential. Importantly, these cannabinoids have not been approved to treat or otherwise cure any medical condition, though preliminary research and anecdotal reports seem to suggest otherwise.
The following are some of the most common hemp cannabinoids in our wellness products, which we cultivate and extract directly from our own Kentucky-based farmland.
CBD
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is the most common hemp cannabinoid, accounting for around 3% of a hemp flower’s total dry weight. When ingested, CBD interacts with special “endocannabinoid receptors” throughout the body, which may help regulate inter- and intracellular communication. In doing, CBD could help the body heal by supporting endocannabinoid tone (the rate at which the body produces and metabolizes endocannabinoids) and, thus, the efficacy of the entire endocannabinoid system.
CBN
CBN, or Cannabinol, is a degraded form of THC, which makes it less common in hemp than it is in intoxicating cannabis. However, even in miniscule amounts, CBN seems to produce characteristic results like restfulness, reduced inflammation, and mild pain relief, according to early research.
CBG
Cannabigerol (CBG) in its acidic form (CBGA) is the precursor to all other cannabis-based cannabinoids. As such, it’s most common in immature cannabis flowers, though some growers (like Copoeia) cultivate special CBG genetics that produce higher levels of the cannabinoid.
Though CBG research is minimal, preliminary studies suggest that it may help ease stress, minimize pain, reduce inflammation, and more. It may also counteract the intoxicating qualities of THC, making it a solid solution to cannabis over-consumption. Importantly, the FDA has not approved CBG for any medicinal applications.
THC
Lastly is THC, an intoxicating cannabinoid that only develops in hemp in very small amounts. Though THC levels tend to be too minute to cause impairment, the cannabinoid may still beneficially contribute to hemp-based cannabinoid products. For example, it could support pain-reliving or anti-inflammatory properties, minimize stress, promote restful sleep, and more. Having said that, full-spectrum hemp products (which can legally include up to 0.3 percent THC according to federal guidelines) may still show up on drug test. As such, those who work in athletics, transportation, or other drug-free workplaces should opt for broad-spectrum or isolate hemp products instead.
Kentucky-Grown Copoeia Hemp
Copoeia proudly grows all of our own cannabis on our Kentucky farmland, having perfected cannabinoid development over many years. We use the best flowering hemp genetics and contaminant-free, nutritious soil to ensure our flowers grow plump, flavorful, and potent. We then extract, distill, and purify the concentrated cannabinoids to infuse into our premium wellness products to help improve their therapeutic potential.
